Oh, what a Portion

We opened the doors and the windows this morning to a beautiful day, a day for joy and gladness. All of creation around us seems to be rejoicing with its own song, and waiting expectantly for us to join in with ours. The birds, in particular, sound their voices: "Song seems the birds' first duty, even before feeding (Philip Howard, father of Elisabeth Elliot)."

Thou art my Portion, saith my soul to Thee,
O what a Portion is my God to me.

~Amy Carmichael

Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.
I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord;
I have no good besides You."

The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You support my lot.
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord, who has counseled me...
You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

~Psalm 16:1-2, 5-7, 11

I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart;
I will tell of all Your wonders.
I will be glad and exult in You;
I will sing praises to Your name, O Most High.

~Psalm 9:1-2

And my soul shall rejoice in the Lord;
It shall exult in His salvation.
All my bones will say, "Lord, who is like You,
Who delivers the afflicted from him who is too strong for him,
And the afflicted and the needy from him who robs him?"

~Psalm 35:9-10
