Holiday preparations...

You will probably be seeing periodic posts related to preparations for Thanksgiving and Christmas...Early last month I began thinking and pondering and brainstorming in earnest, inspired by my purchase of The 12-Week Holiday Planner for the Christian Family (Note: This planner is fantastic! It can be used year after year and is easily customized. It helps so much to organize all your thoughts and plans for the holidays! It is also helping me to be purposeful about building traditions for our family, and thinking further ahead so I don't leave things to the last minute [as I am prone to do]. You can purchase it from Graham Family Ministries.). I am so excited for this season we're entering!

I wanted to share a terrific site for any of those who are at all interested in making homemade gifts for others. Sew, Mama, Sew! blog has begun their second annual "Handmade Holidays" series of posts, tutorials, and inspiration. Each day they introduce a new theme (i.e., "Gifts for Travelers" and "Gifts for Babies and Toddlers"). They've get a lot of creative ideas, and not just for sewing projects! All skill levels are represented. Check it out, and also be sure to peruse the blog categories on their sidebar, which has previous series they've done as well as other goodies.

In other (holiday) related news, I found some boxes for storing stocking stuffers as we find them! Stockings were always a highlight of Christmas morning in my family growing up, and this year Josh and I are starting that tradition in our family. I was looking for a box for each member of our growing little family that we could keep on hand for this purpose, to keep things together and to serve as a reminder to be on the lookout for little things for each other. I was planning on getting small plastic storage bins, but the only bins I was able to find in small sizes were transparent -- NOT good for holding stocking stuffers! But after being disappointed at a couple of stores, I found the perfect solution at Big Lots: Gift boxes for wine bottles! They're festive (covered in several different colors of paper with gold "Happy Holidays!" on them), and they're even roughly equivalent in size and shape to a stocking, so they're perfect! Josh and I set them out on their own little counter as a part of our holiday decorating. Further into the season I might lay greenery on the counter around them.

That's an update on holiday preps for now!
