A new bird siting

This morning, while sitting in a chair in the front of the RV looking out at the stream, I saw a bird I've never seen before. I thought from the crest on its head it might be a kingfisher, and sure enough, it was confirmed when I looked him up in one of my mom's bird books. A Belted Kingfisher -- male, I believe, because I didn't notice a rusty-colored belt on its belly. He looked like this:

He flew upstream and landed on a nearby tree branch over the water; it seemed to me he might be looking for fish underneath him. And maybe he was; Birds of Denver and the Front Range writes, "A dead branch extending over water will often serve as a perch from which they can survey the fish below." I'll have to keep my eyes out for him. I would love to see him dive for a fish!

Wow! I can't believe you really saw a Kingfisher. The only one I've ever seen is the porcelain one sitting on the shelf of our hutch in the diningroom. I'm so envious.
Maybe I'll get to see it sometime when I'm up there. Love, Mom
